Kor Kor Lodge, Geralta, Tigray, Ethiopia.
ONE Plc, Addis Ababa.
Designed by Tim Dodd.
Kor Kor Lodge, set in the magical landscape of Geralta, in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, was a hybrid design of traditional techniques and methods, local to this specific area, fused with modern glass and architectural technology.
As there existed little, if any, information about traditional Tigray architecture and building techniques, on the office site trip to the location, Tim Dodd and the ONE plc team went out in search of what they could explore and discover. From the information accumulated, through investigations and interviews, ONE put a detailed book together showing all they found out from the local builders.
The project was designed in reference to this discovered and research information and material from the Tigray local traditional builders and those that participated in the house construction, handed down from generation to generation. These techniques and references were fused with modern glass and architectural technology.
